Cantabile Chamber Choir

The group's activity started in 2003, being at first an alternative to formal education at the “Ioan Slavici” Theoretical High School, in the town of Panciu, county of Vrancea, Romania. Later, the choir started to gain acknoledgement outside of the institution as well, by participating at several official artistic events organised locally or regionally in community Orthodox Churches and public institutions. Since 2009, Cantabile choir started to participate in contests and festivals organised in the county, region and national levels.

Until now, the choir has gained 9 first places, one second place and one third place (4 of the first places were gained at four different editions of “Lăudați pe Domnul” [Praise the Lord] contests organised by ISJ Vrancea and Arhiepiscopia Buzăului și Vrancei). In 2013, the choir won the first place at National Choral Olympic at the regional level and third place at the national level. At the beginning of 2014, the choral group became a member of the National Choral Association in Romania. The choir is composed of students from classes in 7th through 12th grades, studying at the “Ioan Slavici” Theoretical High School, aged between 14 and 18 years old.

The choir's founder and conductor is Andrei-Igor Manovici, teacher of social sciences at the “Ioan Slavici” Theoretical High School since 2002. He graduated from the "Stefan Luchian" Arts High School, section of music and the Faculty of Philosophy in “Al. I. Cuza” University - Iași.
