The Academic Female Choir of the Students’ Cultural Center Niš was founded in 2004, at the initiative of MA Zoran Stanisavljević, who was artistic director and conductor from the beginning of the work of the Choir until 2012 when the conductor stick was passed over to MA Ivana Mirović. The Choir was formed referring to significant interest of numerous singers, primarily students from the University of Niš, forspecific female choral singing. The program orientation of the Female Choir ranges from a pieces of the old masters to the compositions of contemporary authors with an emphasis on Serbian musical creativity as well as the covers of popular entertainment and pop music. Particularly important segment is the work on the preservation of Serbian and Balkan ethno tradition as well as Orthodox spiritual music. The Female Choir is also part of the cultural events of the City and its performances contributes to marking the important dates and anniversaries of many institutions and of the University of Niš. Choir is a participant at many festivals and competitions in the country and abroad (Italy, Bulgaria, Republika of Srpska, North Macedonia, Spain, Belarus, Slovenia, Greece, Romania, Montenegro, Turky…) where it represents its city and state by winning numerous awards and praises.

Ivana Mirović (1976), graduated from the Faculty of Music, University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, at the Department of Music Theory and Choral Conducting in the class of prof. Dragan Shuplevski. She was a member and assistant conductor of the Skopje Opera Choir. She completed her masters studies in 2006 at the Faculty of Music, University of Belgrade, Department of Conducting, in the class of prof. Darinka Matić Marović. She has been cooperating for many years with the Nis Symphony Orchestra, the Nis Army Orchestra and the Konstantinus Chamber Orchestra. She has performed at numerous concerts in the country and abroad with the Nis Chamber Choir, whose conductor she was from 2000 to 2014. Since 2009, he has been working at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Nis, and is currently an associate professor of Choral Music.

Niš is the largest city in the south of the Republic of Serbia and the seat of the Niš administrative district. According to the 2011 census, 260,237 inhabitants lived in the area of the city of Niš. It is located 237 km southeast of Belgrade on the river Nišava. Niš was the administrative, military and trade center of various states and empires to which it belonged during its long history. Roman emperors Constantine the Great and Constantius III were born in the area of today's Niš, in the ancient city of Nais. The traffic infrastructure on the territory of Niš makes it a crossroads of land and air traffic in the Balkans, (especially due to the intensive traffic to Turkey and Greece) and because the international airport Constantine the Great, which bears the international designation INI, is located on the territory of Niš. It is an important economic, university, cultural, religious and political center of Serbia. The University of Nis, founded in 1965, has 14 faculties and about 30,000 students.
