The Chamber Choir of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) was originally established in 2008. Its co-founder and conductor from the very beginning is Maria Valchanova-Lyubenova, a PhD at the Music Department of the Institute of Art Studies at BAS. The choir aims to contribute to the promotion of unknown and less performed works, thus giving a way to the musical talent and creativity of young Bulgarian and foreign composers to be expressed. In its short history, the choir has participated in four consecutive editions of the International Festival for Orthodox Music “It Is Truly Meet”, in Pomorie, Bulgaria. The choir is a laureate of the 3rd prize in the Chamber Choirs category at the prestigious International May Choir Competition “Prof. G. Dimitrov” held in Varna (Bulgaria) in May 2011, part of the circuit competitions Grand Prix.

Miroslav Popsavov’s class and participated in the master classes in choral conducting of Erwin Ortner, Fred Shtoldfus and Miroslav Popsavov. Maria has scored a long list of prestigious awards, concerts and recordings as a member of the “Frosh” instrumental quartet.
