The “Molende” choir was created in 1999 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, by Kanku Kassanda. It is a mixed choir composed of more than fifty choir members, professional and non-professional, between the ages of 18 to 40 years old.

It is one of the most famous choirs of the Democratic Republic of Congo and is a member of the Congolese Federation of Choir Music (CFCM). The choir Molende is conducted by Kanku Kassanda, Professor of music, at the Institute of Arts in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Molende Choir sings in several languages and dialects from their country.

  • In 2009: Concerts and participation in foreign festivals.
  • In 2007: Participation at the International Gospel Festival of Kinshasa.
  • In 2006: Participation of choir members at the International Work Group of Choir Music organized together with the Congolese National Federation of Choir Music.
  • In 2005: Three concerts organized by a local society in our country who supports the Refugees of the East.
  • In June 2004: Participation in the music festival Without Boundary.

Kanku Kassanda

Born in 1975, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kanku Kassanda started his musical career in 1989, only a few months after his baptism in the Baptist Church.

In 1990 he created the chorus ‘’The Harvesters’’ and a mixed chorus in 1992. In 1994, he was nominated to participate in a contest for an anthem. During the same year he was included as a famous member of the group vocal Protestant in which he will take up the duties of the assistant editor. He will direct a choir made up of 5000 cantors for the occasion of the Centenary of Protestantism in Congo (Democratic Republic of Congo).

With the aim to promote Christian music, he has produced a studio recording and two virtual assemblies.
